Trails
Explore the only Trail System that Crosses State Lines!
There are three recreational trails in the Wisconsin-Illinois State-line region: The Badger, Sugar River, and Jane Addams. The Trail Explorers program challenges people to explore all three and enjoy the diverse features and communities along the way. Following is information to make your visit more enjoyable.

The Trails follow abandoned railroad beds in south central Wisconsin and northern Illinois and have only a 3-5% grade. The trails are packed with limestone screenings providing a hard, smooth surface for comfortable travel. Trestle bridges have planked floors and safety railings. Camping along the trails is illegal.

Wisconsin State Trail Passes
A Wisconsin State Trail Pass is required for all cyclists age 16 and older on the Badger and Sugar River Trails. Annual trail passes may be purchased for $20.00 or a daily pass for $4.00. Trail passes are issued to individuals and are valid on all Wisconsin State Trails along with all of the other state park trails that require a trail pass for mountain biking, horse riding, and cross-country skiing. A trail pass must be purchased and carried before using the trail. If a person is found using the trail without a pass, they will be charged an additional $5.00 for not having a valid trail pass or they can be issued a citation for $249.00. A daily pass is valid only for the day marked. Hikers are not required to pay the trail admission nor are snowmobile or ATV users since funds are received from their vehicle registration. No pass is required for the Jane Addams Trail in Illinois. Following are the current vendors who sell trail passes:

Trail Pass Survey Now Available
Results from the 2009 on-line State Trail Pass user survey are now available. Last year was the second year of the survey and the DNR reports it will be revamping the survey for this year focusing on questions that got ambiguous answers and coming up with revised questions to ask in a new, shorter survey. They may also include new issues that have come up in the last two years. To download the survey results click here.
