The 23-mile Sugar River Trail follows the abandoned Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul railroad bed in south central Wisconsin through the communities of Brodhead, Albany, Monticello, and New Glarus. Scenery includes rushing streams, picturesque rolling hills, verdant meadows, and a state wildlife refuge.
Covered Bridge
A replica of the Clarence Covered Bridge was built over Norwegian Creek by the Brodhead Jaycees 3 miles north of Brodhead.
Milage
- Brodhead to Albany: 7 miles
- Albany to Monticello: 17 miles
- Monticello to New Glarus: 6 miles
Trail Uses
The trail offers bicycling, hiking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling (whenever there is 4 inches of snow or the trail has a groomed based). All-terrain vehicles and motorized vehicles are not allowed on the Sugar River Trail at any time. Hunting is allowed from Albany to Monticello from the Saturday nearest October 17 through January 31.
